the truc lam buddhist temple in my neighborhood
has a lovely day-glo pink fan structure thing on the front of their building.
it was a bright spot on a gloomy saturday.
(wonder what’s goin’ on in the buddha world…)
*UPDATE: 5.9.08: mystery solved!! tommy v replied & enlighted me: “all the things you see are preparations for vesak day or buddha’s day. it’s a buddhist holiday that celebrates the birth, enlightment, and death of the buddha all in one day. depending on the calender it falls generally on the first full moon in may. this year its scheduled may 20.”

Casey & I drove by that last night. I tried to get the camera out to take a picture, but didn’t make it in time. I wonder what it’s for? Hmmm.

All the things you see are preperations for Vesak Day or Buddha’s day. Its a Buddhist holiday that celebrates the Birth, Enlightment, and Death of the Buddha all in one day. Depending on the calender it falls generally on the first full moon in May. This year its scheduled May 20.
