“If you follow music, art, and culture of the American south sooner or later you’re bound to run into the letters, images, and unmistakable “look” of Hatch Show Print {Country Music Hall of Fame}

Since 1879 ~ Nashville’s Hatch Show Print has produced handset letterpress posters advertising everything from state fairs to concerts according to founding brothers Herbert H. and Charles R. Hatch. “Advertising without posters is like fishing without worms.”

…As technology was shifting the printing business away from handset letterpress to the more efficient and faster method of offset lithography the Hatch brothers continued in the less-expensive medium of woodblock printing that well served their clients’ needs & produced a bold and unique look that made Hatch Show Print famous…

“Thus, the technology at this Nashville institution has never changed, only the faces of the customers: from Elvis Presley to Elvis Costello, Buddy Guy to Bruce Springsteen, Etta James to Emmylou Harris, the Carter Family to Coldplay, and many, many more.

While the Hatch name is synonymous with the music business, its posters promoting football games, vaudeville shows, state fairs, stock-car races and picture shows reflect the breadth of American popular culture.” {from American Letterpress: The Art of Hatch Show Print}

There was great story on the American Routes {on NPR} this weekend about Hatch Show – listen here. And so! Mr. D & I were thrilled when we discovered that they do wedding invitations too! {He has a Hatch Show print poster collection} So naturally, that’s where we had our invites made. Pretty neat.

  1. Can I ask you for a ballpark price range on what you paid for these? Was hatch easy to work with? How many drafts did you get to review? Did you meet in person or over the phone/via email to have these designed, or did you design them? (were you able to mail them with a standard stamp?)

    They look awesome!! i LOVE Hatch!

      they WERE easy to work with – however, they are old-school {at the time, i was in chicago & they of course, are in nashville} and only work via phone & fax. no email. or you can go into their shop if you’re local or in the area. but i was strictly via phone & fax. i told them everything we wanted as far as copy & color. but since they are the typeset experts – you kind of leave it up to them. but i must say – i got the first draft via fax – had only one change – they faxed it back within a couple hours, i signed off & they printed pretty fast. the timing all depends on their current orders & workload. our set up was standard postage. i can imagine having an rsvp page could weigh a bit more. if you feel comfortable with them taking a bit of creative license and expertise with your vision – i highly recommend. for $75 extra you can get a hatch show print size poster of your invite too! they were definitely a wonderful addition to our overall wedding theme & a great keepsake! let me know if you have any other questions! Stacy
