Holiday Bottles & Jars

For my 7th installment of Handmade Holiday Decorations, I present: Faux Colored Holiday Bottles & Jars

They are quite pretty as they are ~ but I wanted these jazzed up for Christmas. This is a great project for those of you, like me, who hoard save bottles & jars. Pick out bottles and jars that are interesting and make sure they are clean & free of labels.

Depending on the size of the jar or bottle mix 1-2 TBS of Glossy Mod Podge with a TINY amount of water to thin it out just a little bit.  Add drops of food colors and mix. The more food coloring & the thicker the mixture – to darker the jars will be.

Coat the inside of the jars thoroughly with the Mod Podge mixture by swirling it around & around. Turn upside-down to drain out the excess until it barely drips out anymore. The best way to dry is upside-down on a rack {put wax paper underneath} or you can put in a 175-200 degree oven until the bottle is transparent again {but you may have air bubbles if you dry this way}

Next, if you have any ribbons, beads, broken jewelry pieces & any other ephemera that you can decorate the jars with ~ get out your glue gun and start creating. {this one is ready for Mardi Gras!}

The possibilities are really quite endless with this project. Don’t get frustrated if you don’t like the outcome of your faux colored bottles & jars because you can always soak them to remove the Mod Podge and start over.
